Ronald & Lucy
"We have been married since September 7, 2003. We first met at The Leisure Connection, a group sponsored by The Young Adult Institute. We spent our honeymoon on a cruise to Nova Scotia, which we enjoyed very much. We dated for about two years before marrying.
We are very happy as members of Hankering For More. We like that members are encouraged to socialize with each other. We have met several nice people in the group many of which we hope to maintain friendships with.
We believe that most adults with disabilites can do anything if they set their minds to do so. We don't believe in the words "I can't". Instead we believe in the words "I'll try" or "I can"."
Ron has lived independently since April 1991 & has been employed for the past 15 yrs as a mail clerk for an insurance company.
Lucy is a receptionist at a nursing facility where she has worked for the past 13 years. What makes Lucy's job important to her is that she must be very responsible because one of her duties is the safety of the residents. Before Ron and Lucy were married, Lucy lived on her own for 6 years.

Amy
I started attending the Hankering for More social group four years ago. I think the group is a great group to meet different kinds of people and to make friends with them. We go on many trips throughout the year. We go bowling, see shows, partake in dance lessons, cooking classes and many different kinds of art projects. I have made alot of new friends since joining.
I work with Special Ed children in a public school in Queens. I am a teacher's assistant. I have worked at this job 15 years. I work with autistic, Down Syndrome and retarded children between the ages of 6-10. I enjoy my job very much even though it is very tiring and challenging I like to help the children become as productive as possible.

Hankering For More Newlyweds
Hank (our group's namesake) and Lauren met through Hankering For More in 2004. After dating for a couple of years, Hank surprised Lauren with a marriage proposal at a group event at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. They were married in May 2008 in a beautiful ceremony that was witnessed by family and the many friends that they have made through participation in Hankering For More. Congratulations to both of them!
